Lanell is proceeded in death by her parents, and leaves to mourn her passing a longtime partner and friend, Tyrone Hudson, her children, Tamiko (Charles) Bowman of Atlanta and Tomaisus Freightman of Gulfport. Her brother, Eldridge (Linda) Ramsey of Gulfport and her beloved grandchildren, Farrah and Dorian both of Atlanta. Cherishing her memory and sharing the warmth of her love is a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many who came to know her and love her as "mom."
Generosity is giving more than you can, and pride is taking less than you need ~Khalil Gibran. This quote typifies the lived life and legacy that remains of Lanell Freightman. She attended Thirty-Third High School and Gulfport High School. As a teen and young adult, she enjoyed playing softball. In the workforce, she served capably in the service industry as a part of the kitchen staff of local restaurants and hospitals where she met no strangers. No doubt was accruing many of the friends and acquaintances that filled her life. Lanell's generosity was seen and felt in her food, and many benefited from the many pies, potato salad or red beans and rice that had her signature flare. She worked until health prevented her but her generosity of time and love abounded in service to family, friends, and anyone she could help.
In humility, Lanell seldom took what she may well have needed, preferring instead to see those she loved satisfied with their needs and wants met. She adored her family and enjoyed regularly talking to her grandchildren whose lives she shared in attending recitals, concerts, games, and graduations when time and resource would allow.
Lanell is cherished by many near and far and in the wake of her passing a host of family and friends share a sea of memories and treasured moments that have colored a life rich in love, warmth, and generosity.
