Laneeta Roberts Cruthirds

Born Oct. 5, 1933 in Mississippi City to Wallace and Alice (McDanal) Roberts, Laneeta Roberts Cruthirds passed away on January 16, 2025, in the early morning hours surrounded by those she loved most.

She started school in Long Beach for her first six year, then went on to Gulfport for the next three years. She then moved to Vancleave for the next two years. Her senior years was at Woolmarket where she graduated in 1951. 

While at Vancleave she met Erie Cruthirds. They married in March of 1951. Together they raised 8 children and one granddaughter.

In September of 1971 they opened Cruthirds Country Corner Store in Latimer and built it into the store it became until she retired due to health reasons in May of 2018. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54years, Erie, Sr., her daughter, Shari; her parents, Wallace and Alice Roberts, her sisters, Irene Delancey and Margaretann Klaver; her brother, Douglas “Curly” Roberts; her great-granddaughter, Jasmine Cruthirds;and her beloved Uncle Klight Roberts.

Laneeta is survived by her daughters Ann Buckheister, Eileen Stevenson and Glennis (Bob) Crowell; her sons Erie II. (Maria) Cruthirds, Tony (Darlene) Cruthirds, Ralph (Lisa) Cruthirds and Kendall (Cindy) Cruthirds; grandchildren, Nancy Buckheister, Angie (Ronnie) Toncrey, Steven Cruthirds, Stephanie Cruthirds, Aden (Savannah) Cruthirds, Nicholas (Haley) Cruthirds, Cameron (Brittany) Poulos, Sean Crowell, Kayla (Jeff) Marodis, Lilly (Jeremy) Baumann and J. R. Cruthirds. Twelve great-grandchildren; her sisters, Roberta DuBose of Grand Junction, CO. and Maureen Davis of College Station, TX; and adopted family, Lona Fay Lamey, Chris Sims, Allen and Roseanna Henderson and their daughters.

We would like to thank Whitney Moore, N.P, and Delaney Hitt for the very special care they gave mother. Thank you to sitters, Amanda Nagy and Emily Barnes for the wonderful care shown to mother, and a very special thank you to Trent Delancey and Jon Wright for all the love, care, and meals for mother. To Singing River Hospice of Light, thank you for your love, care and compassion given our mother. We can never thank the community enough for all their kindness and support through all of years. Mother often said that the store and the support of the community is what got her through the death of her own daughter Shari.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. West Jackson County. Funeral services will be held on at 11:00 am Saturday, January 18, 2025, with a one hour visitation prior, at the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons. 

A Celebration of Life Reception will follow at Latimer Community Center, immediately following the interment. 

At Laneeta's request, Eileen will escort her in her personal vehicle to the interment at Erie Cruthirds Family Cemetery, 14900 Jim Ramsay Rd Vancleave, MS.
