Kenneth Dale "Smitty" Smith, 1st Sergeant, U.S. Army (Retired), age 76, of Gulfport, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019.
Smitty served in the Army reserve at the Mobile Medical Unit based in Gulfport. He retired after 27 years with the rank of First Sergeant, that he was very proud to have obtained. He also worked at the Biloxi V.A. Medical Center where he was the Urology Tech for many years. After he retired from the VAMC, he worked at the several area hospitals as an OR tech. In his younger years, he was active in the community doing volunteer work, participating in Carnival and American Legion Post 119. As he got older, he enjoyed boating, fishing, spending time with his many grandkids by hosting cookouts and impromptu parties at home. He was a big fan of video poker and slots. He will be missed, but never forgotten by all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Flora (Lee) Smith; and his sister Ann Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Susan Kallas Smith; his daughter, Ann (Jeffrey) Callister; his sons, Kevin Dale (Joy) Smith and Kenneth Ross Smith; his step-daughter, Melissa (Doug) Zabinkski; his step-sons, Anthony C. Kallas; Timothy B. Kallas; and 26 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at 9:00am. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Gulfport is serving the family.
