Kenneth """"Curley"""" Farris, age 82, of Hattiesburg, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Farris was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII. From 1962 until retirement 28 years later, he coached baseball and football for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he also served as Athletic Director. The school baseball field was named in his honor. Previous to his coaching career at MGCCC, he also coached at numerous high schools in Mississippi. He was a member of the Hall of Fame of the Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges, the National Junior College Athletic Association, and the Mississippi Association of Coaches. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and was of the baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Farris; and his brother, Vernon Farris.
He is survived by his children, Cooper Farris and wife Kandyce of Saucier, and Peg Robertson of Moss Point; his brother, Bill Farris and his wife Julie of Corinth, MS; his brother, Lindsey Byrd and her husband Brett of Canton; five grandchildren, Lauren Farris of Saucier, C.C. Bradberry and her husband Bo of Gulfport, Mandy Robertson and Emily Robertson, both of Moss Point; and one great grandchild, Betsy Byrd.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the service.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Forest Memorial Park, Corinth, MS.
The family prefers memorial contributions to be made to the AlzheimeraÌââ¢s Foundation, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, New York 10001.
