Kenneth Richard ""Big Rick"" Breland, age 61, of Wiggins, and formerly of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012, in Mobile, AL at the University of South Alabama Medical Center.
Mr. Breland was born in Gulfport, MS on November 22, 1950. After high school, he served in the United States Navy. He worked as a machinist and welder in the welding industry for most of his career. Ricky loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with family and friends. He joined his family for years during the Dixie National Rodeo riding in the wagon train from the Coast to Jackson. He was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and painting. He attended Red Creek Baptist Church in Wiggins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Breland, Jr., and stepfather, Francis J. Sly.
He is survived by his mother, Christine H. Sly of Gulfport; stepmother, Sarah L. Breland; sisters, Kathryn Magnusen (Ricky) of Perkinston, and Cynthia Parker (Olen) of Kentucky; brother, Randy Breland (Mary Martha) of Gulfport; stepbrother, John Seay; stepsisters, Charlotte Bales (Bobby), Sandra Gavagnie (Alan), and Rachel McClendon ; 5 nephews, Andrew and Adam Breland, Tony Magnusen, Jonathan Chiniche, and Brent Adams; 2 nieces, Dianne Adams and Kristen Bates; and one great niece, Abigail Adams.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 12:15 p.m. Visitation will be after 11:15 a.m. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
