In Loving Memory of Kathy Nichols
Kathy Nichols, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home with her daughter Kristie and her husband Bryan on February 8, 2025, Born on September 17, 1953, in omaha, Nebraska, Kathy lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Ilean and Virgil Vice, her devoted husband, Billy Nichols, her cherished son, John Rush, and her eight siblings. She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her two children, Kristie Smith and her husband Bryan Smith, her favorite baby boy, William Rush as well as her sister Linda Lind and husband Ken. Kathy’s family grew to include 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and spent countless joyful moments with.
For most of her life, Kathy called Council Bluffs, Iowa, home, before spending her final eight years living with her daughter Kristie. A dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for many years, Kathy found fulfillment in caring for others. She also enjoyed her time working at the Glass Gallery, where her creativity and warmth shone through. Kathy’s passions included cooking, canning, and making Christmas candies, which she shared with her family and friends. She found peace in the outdoors, often camping and fishing, and cherished quiet moments with her beloved cat, Belle.
Kathy was a woman with a plan, known for her thoughtful preparation and attention to detail. In true Kathy fashion, she meticulously planned and prepared her own wake, even organizing the food and decorations for a Super Bowl party scheduled for the Sunday following her passing. Tragically, she passed away the day before, leaving behind a gathering that reflected her love for celebration and togetherness.
Kathy’s life was a testament to love, family, and resilience. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
