Karon Kay Murmylo, born on July 27, 1952, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at the age of 72, on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi, surrounded by the love of her family. She was a remarkable woman whose kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were blessed to know her.
Karon grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, a place she always considered home. Though life took her away for about 20 years to raise her children, she eventually returned to the area she cherished most, where she continued to create lasting memories with her loved ones.
In her younger years, Karon was known for her passion for sports. She played tennis and coached softball with dedication and joy, fostering a deep love for athleticism and teamwork. An avid basketball fan, she would always proudly cheer for the Tennessee Volunteers, showcasing her spirited enthusiasm for the game.
Karon’s professional life was filled with achievements, but her greatest pride stemmed from her role as a mother and grandmother. She held her daughters, Amanda Pugh (Tony) of Gulfport and Kristin Cardwell (Matt) of Knoxville, TN, close to her heart, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Kylie and Morgan Pugh, and Rachel and Jack Cardwell, who brought her immense joy.
Karon was preceded in death by her parents, William R. Rainey and Ellen V. Rainey, and her brother, Kenneth (Kenny) Rainey. Their memories will forever remain a part of her legacy.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Karon's life and legacy. A visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, Mississippi. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, 1180 Eatonville, Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
