Mrs. Karly Jona Legere, age 80, resident of Diamondhead, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011, at home with her family.
Mrs. Legere was a native of Reykjabik, Iceland, and was determined to become a U.S. citizen. At the age of 21 she moved to the United States. She then met her husband of over 50 years in San Francisco, CA in 1957. They were married October 18, 1958, and after Mr. Legere's military service, they started their family and lived in various places along the East coast. Mrs. Legere received her Certificate of Naturalization on June 17, 1963 in Trenton, New Jersey. They moved their family to Louisiana and after retirement, settled in Diamondhead in 1995. She was a member of the Hancock County Republican Women's Club and the Lutheran Church of the Pines in Waveland. She lived for her family, dedicating her life to her children's activities, no matter where that may have taken them. That dedication was not only reserved for family, as she had a deep respect and love for nature and God's creatures. She was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kristjon Kristjonsson and Solveig Larsen; brothers, Robert and Kristjon Kristjonsson.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Anthony Legere, Sr.; children, Robert A. Legere, Jr. of Diamondhead, Renee Harris of Milton, FL, and Michele Legere of Diamondhead; brother, Solvin Kristjonsson of Iceland; five grandchildren, Rebecca Goodwin, Brittney Goodwin, Robert A.
