Karen Compton Nitkiewicz passed away on July 5, 2024 in her home surrounded by family.
Karen was the wife of Paul Nitkiewicz, and they shared 35 years together. She was born in Ramstein, Germany on October 29, 1956. She was the daughter of Thomas Compton and Francis Lorette Compton. Karen graduated from Harrison Central High School and worked as an administrator for Gulf South Surgery Center for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Nitkiewicz; son, Jerry Nitkiewicz and daughter-in-law, Megan Nitkiewicz;, daughter, Jill Moss and son-in-law, Blake Moss; son, Jacob Nitkiewicz and daughter-in-law, Mackenzi Geil Nitkiewicz; sisters, Ellen Guidy, Patricia Ohlin, and Brenda Compton; brother. Thomas Compton; grandchildren, Emersyn Nitkiewicz, Brooks Moss, and Chandler Moss; nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Compton and Francis Lorette Compton.
Karen was a member of Michael Memorial Baptist Church. She firmly embraced her faith and imparted valuable lessons on God to us, emphasizing the significance of putting Him first. She constantly reminded us of the crucial role of instilling in our children a deep understanding and love for God. Karen found the most joy in her family and will be remembered for many things; her inner and outer beauty marked her as a remarkable woman, her exceptional care and consideration for others set her apart, ensuring everyone’s well being, and her devotion to her family was unwavering. She was an amazing daughter, sister, friend, wife, mama, and a particularly cherished Nana to our babies. She stood by our side during life’s most important moments, showcasing the essence of genuine love and selflessness. Even in her final days, her selflessness shone through, placing our needs before her own. The tremendous love she received from many reflects the impact of her actions, leaving us so blessed for her presence in our lives and the cherished memories that we will always hold dear to our hearts. While we long for her to still be on this earth, we are at peace knowing that she is free from suffering and embraced in the arms of Jesus. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you soon.
A visitation will be held from 1:00~2:00 PM, Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, with interment at 10 AM, Friday, July 12, 2024, at Biloxi National Cemetery.
