Justin Maurice Stewart

Justin Maurice Stewart, age 37, ascended to the arms of the Lord, Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Justin was born in Gulfport, Mississippi on March 12, 1985.

From the beginning it was evident that Justin was absolutely selfless in nature but competitive in spirit. This surely contributed to his early love of the game of baseball where he excelled as a pitcher, first baseman and absolute slugger. Later, Justin traded his bat for a guitar and typewriter and found his true calling. As a songwriter he was truly one of a kind. His songs, which fearlessly explored love, loss, and many of those mysteries in between, will remain unmatched for all time. But it was the man himself that was truly a marvel. His humor and his infectious laugh were impossible to stifle. The poetry in both his work and his speech was completely unique. To know him was to know generosity, integrity, and loyalty, and unconditional love. He will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Loren & Cora Dedeaux, and Otis & Jessie Williams; grandparents, Ike and Christine Dedeaux and Maurice and Fannie Stewart; aunts, DeDe Dedeaux and Jan Sweet.

He is survived by father, Gary Maurice Stewart; stepmother, Kay Stewart; stepbrothers, Antonio, Allan, Jonathan, and Sean; stepsister Mallory; mother, Paula Sweet; stepfather, David Sweet; stepbrothers; James and Josh Sweet; brother, Samuel Stewart; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

To know him was to know generosity, integrity, loyalty, and unconditional love.

Visitation will be 12-2 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport. The funeral service is after the visitation at 2pm.
