With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Justin Michael Lloyd, age 49, and a resident of Gulfport.
He grew up in Norwich, Vermont, and graduated from Hanover High School in 1994. He went on to attend Lyndon State College in Vermont, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. During his college years, he discovered a deep passion for radio broadcasting and communications. Remarkably, he became the only freshman at the time to host his own radio show.
After graduating, he accepted a position with 107.1 FM The Monkey and relocated to Gulfport, Mississippi, where he would reside for 25 years. Over the years, he advanced to become the program director as the station transitioned to 105.9 FM The Monkey. He also created and hosted his own morning radio show on 97.9 FM CPR Rocks, where they discussed a wide range of current events.
He became widely known as "Lucas," a beloved radio personality who was frequently on the air and left a lasting impression on listeners. He loved hosting in-person events to support local businesses, organizing the annual Gulfport Music Festival, participating in Kidd’s Kids non-profit charity for children and volunteering for the American Red Cross.
He had a passion for sports and was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics, the Boston Red Sox, and the Green Bay Packers, where he and his daughter bonded. He had a deep, heartfelt love for animals, and his life was joyfully filled with the companionship of many dogs.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Judy Castor Lloyd; his paternal grandparents, Janice Lloyd (aka Nana) and Joseph Lloyd; and maternal grandparents Fran Castor and Clair Castor.
He is survived by his daughter, Kloe Lloyd of Washington DC; father, Richard Lloyd of White River Junction, VT; sister, Melanie Lloyd of Watertown, CT; uncle, Francis Lloyd, aunt Ellen Lloyd, aunt, Debbie Lloyd; nephew, Kyle Longo; and cousin, Jeff Dodds.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Red Cross.
