Mr. Julius """"Julio"""" Campanali, passed away on October 12, 2009, at 89 years of age. He passed quietly at his home in Diamondhead after being annointed, in the company of his wife and four generations of family.
Julius was born in New York on July 21, 1920 to the late Nicolo and Gaetana Campanali, Italian immigrants.
As an adult, he moved to New Orleans where he worked as a taxi driver and longshoreman before opening a nightlclub on Bourbon Street. He was a thoroughbred owner and enjoyed racing for over 15 years. After 25 years in business, he retired with his family to Hancock County, before settling in Diamondhead.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo, Frankie, Jimmy and Joseph Campanali; grandson, Joseph Camp.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Dorothy Campanali of Diamondhead; children, Michael Campanali of Diamondhead and his wife Laura, Louis """"Buster"""" Camp of Stanhope, NJ and his wife Rose, Susie Martin, of Pigeon Forge, TN, Gloria Zeringue of Kiln and her husband Charles, Patsy Zeringue of Slidell and her husband Alan, Paula Raymo of Bourbon, Missouri and her husband Larry; siblings, Juliet Grazino of Staton Island, NY, Fanny Ambler of Staton Island, NY, and Michael Campanali of New Jersey; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, where friends may visit from 4 pm until 6 pm. Recitation of the Rosary will be be at 5:30 pm. Funeral services will begin at 6 pm in the funeral home chapel.
