Juliana Hughes

 It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of Juliana Margaret Hughes, age 91 who passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 5, 2025 in her winter home in Waveland, Mississippi.

 Juliana was born May 23, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, the first born of Paul C. Hughes and Mary Helen O’Mara Hughes.

Juliana was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Sr. Margaret Hughes IHM, brother Francis Hughes, nephews Paul Hughes, Stephen Fabian and Damian Hughes.

She is survived by her brother Patrick Hughes and sister Paula Hughes, whom she has resided with for the last four years traveling yearly to Lyme, Connecticut in the summer and Waveland, Mississippi in the winter. 

Juliana is survived by eight nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews and a great great niece and two great great nephews.

Juliana was raised as a Roman Catholic in Detroit, Michigan, attending Assumption Grotto church and Assumption Grotto elementary school and Nativity high school, graduating in 1952.

She was a key punch operator for General Motors in Warren Michigan for twenty years before becoming an Administrator Assistant for the Michigan Public School System in Warren, Michigan.

Juliana was an excellent pianist and continued to play the piano entertaining family and friends into her 90s, at the amazement of others. She was an active member of the Detroit Skiwi Ski and Socia club, skiing her way around northern Michigan. 

Juliana had a big heart and was well loved by her nieces and nephews. She never married or had children, but was always there for her siblings, nieces and nephews. Juliana was a devoted volunteer at Birthright in Shelby township providing love and support for women facing motherhood.

Juliana touched the lives of all who knew her. She was full of love and always had a smile

A life well lived, forever in our hearts, gone but not forgotten.

Juliana’s remains will return to Lyme, Connecticut and reside in the Eight Mile River Cemetery along side her two nephews Stephen Fabian and Damian Hughes.

Memorial and religious services for Juliana are pending. Riemann Family Funeral Home Waveland is assisting family.
