Judy Jones Haller, 81, of Gulfport, Mississippi died on Monday, March 4, 2024. Born on September 20, 1942, in Gulfport, she was educated at Gulfport High where she was a majorette in the band. She later graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a BS in Education.
Judy grew up in Mississippi City attending St. Peter’s by the Sea where she married her high school sweetheart and husband of 62 years, Henry “Skipper” Haller. Upon moving back home, they became members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in 1976. Her love of God and service to others were exemplified with her time serving on the Altar Guild and with the Episcopal Church Women’s group.
Judy spent her professional life teaching in the public schools where she found her love of teaching at-risk children. Her dedication, commitment and unconditional love of children helped countless students succeed in their educational paths. This passion for helping others was also expressed with her many years of involvement with the Gaits to Success Organization, combining her love of horses and helping special needs children.
In her spare time, Judy loved her animals. Her beloved dog Rags and Elvis her horse were so dear to her heart. Judy was still trail riding with her friends at the age of 79. “Gram” was always the rock of the family. She loved her family deeply and she expressed that love for her family in many ways. She was the number one fan of her children and grandchildren, always attending their competitions, games and any event that they were involved in. She was known for her exceptional culinary skills, spending time in nature, tending her plants, and cheering for her Saints. She will always be remembered for beautiful art works and creativeness in arts and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Retta Jones, brother, Baxter Jones, and sister-in-law, Renell Jones.
Survivors include her husband; children, Terry Haller Steckler (Kevin), and Tim Haller (Lisa); siblings, Roy W. Jones, Jr. (Bettye), and Alan M. Jones (Andrea); sister-in-law, Ellen Jones; and grandchildren, Kyle and Jody Steckler and Bailey and Kellan Haller.
