Juanita J. Tanner, age 89, of Gulfport died at home December 14, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Juanita ""Mam Ma"", as she was called by close friends and family was born September 28, 1921 in Mt. Sterling, AL. After living in New Orleans for a brief time, she and her husband Lawrence moved to Gulfport in 1951.
She and Lawrence joined First United Methodist-Gulfport in 1951 and she was invovled in the church her entire life. She was CircleChair, helped start the ministry to help with the needs of others, and she was always there when someone needed anything.
She served on various committees in PTA with the Gulfport City Schools.
Her main focus in life was to be always mindful of the needs of family members, friends, or others that she did not even know.
She is survived by her husband, William Lawrence Tanner; daughter, Brenda Bernheim of Jackson; granddaughter, Christina Bernheim Siddens and her husband Wesley of Selma, AL; and one sister, Myra Lynn Burnett of Geiger, AL and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 18 2010, with visitation one hour prior, at First United Methodist, Gulfport. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the General Memorial Fund at First UMC-Gulfport, 2301 15th Street, Gulfport, MS 39501.
