Juanell Meek, 84 years of age, died at her home in Gulfport, Mississippi surrounded by her family and loved ones. She went to Heaven to be with our Lord on August 12, 2007 following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born in OaÌââ¢Brien, Texas to the late Romie Cleveland Dennington and the late Ruth aÌâÅNanaaÌâ Hudspeth Dozier. She graduated from OaÌââ¢Brien High School in 1940 and furthered her education by graduating from Weatherford Beauty College in Weatherford, Texas. She later chose a career with the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology working as a State Salon Inspector for eight years. Juanell was a member of The First Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi in the late 60aÌââ¢s before joining The First United Methodist Church in 1972. Mrs. Meek was also a resident of Metairie, LA for over 20 years.
Juanell is survived by her beloved husband, James Capers Meek; her daughter, Sharon Lawrence Wiseman; her son, Craig Paul Lawrence; her daughter, Carla Lawrence Weekley Higgins; two daughters by marriage, Sandra Misallati and Linda DeLaCruz; three granddaughters, Paige Amundson Saleun, Nancy Michel Lambert, and Ruth Anne Lawrence Meek; one grandson, Charles aÌâÅTysonaÌâ Weekley; three sisters, Murlene Johnston, Deane Johnston, and Annette Holmes; and one brother Harold aÌâÅBudaÌâ Dozier. She is further survived by great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at THE RIEMANN FAMILY'S Gulf Coast Funeral Home, 11266 Three Rivers Road, in Gulfport, Mississippi, and Reverend Andy Johnson with The First United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Family and friends are welcome for visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
Our precious Mother and Mimi will be remembered and cherished by all who knew and loved her for her gracious spirit and loving ways. She will forever live in our hearts as the aÌâÅMatriarchaÌâ of our family, and we will miss her terribly.
