Joycelyn "Joy" Plattsmier Cobena passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 26th surrounded by family.
Joy was born to Winfred J. and Edith Breaux Plattsmier on February 1, 1926 in Rayne, Louisiana. Bena, as she was affectionately called by many, was an energetic woman who never missed a chance to live. From leaving Louisiana as a young lady to help the war effort in New York City to being an active golfer and bridge player and embracing the social life in Diamondhead, MS.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Lynn Woodrow Cobena and her brother, Winfred Joseph "Buster" Plattsmier, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Janelle Plattsmier Domingues, her children, Carolyn Cobena, Elizabeth ‘Bobbee’ Ferrer (Joe), Rebecca Young (Chip) and Todd Cobena (Julie). Joy and Lynn have nine grandchildren, Ryan Haase (Yvonne), Sally Calongne Morris (John), Todd Calongne (Joe), Adam Young, Beaux Young, Robert Young, Caroline Young Dubuisson (James), Joseph Cobena (Bobbie) and Emily Cobena. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
We would like to extend our thanks to those who helped care for Joy in her later life, Vickie Duet, Roxanne Necaise and the Hospice Team from Encompass Health.
The family will have a Celebration of Life for Joy and Lynn at a later date.
The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Rd, Pass Christian, is serving the family.
