Joyce deBlanc Dixon, 80, of Long Beach, MS passed away peacefully on December 25, 2010.
A native of New Iberia, LA, and longtime resident of New Orleans and Gretna, LA, Joyce was a dedicated nurse who worked for many years serving the community at Jeffereson Parish Public Heath Unit in Marrero, LA. She was a loving and nurturing mother, an avid gardener, and serious cat lover. She enjoyed good food and company and often had guests over for boiled seafood, gumbo and her famous miriton cassarole.
She is preceded in death by her parents Weldon deBlanc, and Lucy Dugas, a brother Michael deBlanc, and a sister Shirley Mire all from New Iberia, LA.
Survivors include her brother Weldon deBlanc, Jr; her daughters and sons-in-law Liz and Mark Young of Long Beach, MS and Mary Dixon and Tad Kamiya of Oakland, CA; her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Debra Dixon of Covington LA; her grandchildren, Melissa (Kris) Brown, Lauren (Nick) Kessler, Michael Young, Richie Dixon, and Justin Dixon; and her great grandchildren Isabel and Harris Brown and Carter Kessler.
There will be no services, instead a family and friends celebration of Joyce's life will be held at her favorite restaurant.
