Joy Swanson

Joy Hazard Swanson, age 84, a native of New Orleans, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at her residence in Diamondhead.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Swanson, Sr.; and her son, Richard P. Swanson, Jr.

As an air force wife, Joy and her family enjoyed traveling wherever her husband was stationed and had many adventures around the world.

Joy is survived by her children, Terry Swanson Sullivan (Kevin), Jerri Swanson Johnson, Denise Swanson Barter (Fred), William Frederick Swanson, and Casey Sean Swanson, Sr. (Shelly); 15 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

Joy was a 1955 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in New Orleans and attended Soule Business College, also in New Orleans. She was a real estate agent on the Gulf Coast and worked for Sawyer Real Estate.  After retirement, Joy loved playing bridge and attending parties with her friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 12:30pm, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 11:30am, both at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Pass Christian. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
