Joy Lott Shelton, 89, of Ridgeland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Mother's Day, which was also her birthday, May 12, 2013. A family graveside service will be held in the Biloxi National Cemetery, on May 15, 2013 at 12:30 pm.
Joy grew up in Richton, Mississippi. She graduated from Richton High School in 1942 and attended The University of Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma Couch and Gaven Ross Lott of Richton; sisters, Mary Beth Mayfield and Edna Ross Faciane.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Joe Morris Shelton, and her daughter Debbye Moore Dabbs (Kelly), all of Madison. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Laurie Dabbs Hunt (Davy) of Nesbit and Trenton Kelly Dabbs (Kristen) of Nashville, Tennessee.
Joy had five great grandchildren; Thomas Wiley Hunt, Kelly Elizabeth Hunt, David Walker Hunt, Veda Lott Dabbs, and Cohen Young Dabbs. She also leaves behind her niece, Diane Faciane Vance (Jack) of Buffalo, New York.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Janice Penquite, Eartha Briggs, and the devoted staff at Highland Home.
Memorials may be made to ""Second Mile Ministry"" of First Baptist Church, 1560 Popps Ferry Rd, Biloxi, MS, 39532, which she founded in 1985.
