SSgt Joseph R. Stoessel, US Army, Ret., age 82, of Long Beach, MS, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 in Gulfport, MS.
He was born October 15, 1927, in Long Beach, MS and remained a lifelong resident of Long Beach. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving in Korea and 3 tours in Vietnam. He also retired from the U. S. Postal Service.
Mr. Stoessel was preceded in death by his parents, George and Leona Ladnier Stoessel, and 2 sisters, Dorothy and Julia Stoessel.
Survivors include his son, Joseph (Veronica) Stoessel, Jr., Marietta, GA, daughters, Cheryl (Kevin) Wade, Wilmington, DE, Patricia Hale, and Linda Ghunmeyeen, both of Long Beach, a brother, Horace Stoessel, Kapa'a, Hawaii, sisters, Evelyn (James) Lassabe, Gulfport, and Edwina Hare, Durham, NC, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his special friends, Walter and Karola Williams, Long Beach.
A private graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family requests memorials be sent to the Humane Society of South MS, 2615 Hwy 49, Gulfport, MS 39501.
