Joseph David McKay, Sr. departed this life on Saturday, June 11, 2011, and was reunited with his loved ones that passed before him.
Born and raised in Gulfport, Joe grew up building water towers for CB & I, traveling to Kuwait, St. Lucia, and all over the Southeastern United States. Joe loved to ride his Harleys and later became one of the best Harley mechanics on the Gulf Coast, after he graduated from AMI in Daytona. He enjoyed racing dirt track stock car circuits with his Dad and won numerous trophies and awards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Ellis and Bobbie M. McKay; a brother, David McKay; sister, Christine McKay; and his granddaughter, Fallyn Starr Spiers McKay.
He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Gwyn; son Joseph, Jr.; brother ""Buddy"" McKay; sister Lana McKay; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Sallie Franklin; sister-in-law, Nicki Franklin; brother-in-law, Eddie Franklin; nephew, Ed Franklin and numerous nieces and nephews; 2 dachshunds, Smokey and his constant companion ""Reggie;"" and numerous close friends and family.
The family will celebrate Joe's life on Friday, June 17, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the family residence.
