Joseph Newton Holcomb, Sr., 75 of Gulfport, MS passed away Friday, October 26, 2007. He was a graduate of Success High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In 1989, Joe retired from the V.A. Medical Center after 33 years of service. He also served as a Harrison County Court Baliff from 1991 until 2000. He was a major in the Gulfport Police Reserve Force from 1956 until 2000. Joe was a member of Poplarhead Methodist Church as well as a member of the Gulfport Masonic Lodge, #422. He was also a member of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Gulf Coast Chapter and the American Legion Post 119.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Holcomb, Sr. and Beulah Ladner, a grandson, Christian, a half brother, Charlie Holcomb, a half sister, Ola Ann Holcomb.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Maxine Carroll Holcomb, his son, Joseph N. Holcomb, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Gulfport, MS, two daughters, Sherry Bass and her husband, George, Kimberly Watts and her husband, Thomas, all of Long Beach, MS; three grandsons, Jared Bass, Damian Holcomb and Trevor Watts, a sister, Bonnie Parker, of Gulfport and a brother, Willie Holcomb, Jr. of Saucier, MS, an aunt, Maggie Holcomb of Gulfport, MS; and numerous nephews and nieces, relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 3 Rivers Road Chapel, Gulfport. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at Noon at the funeral home chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
