Joseph Bernard Duteil, Jr., age 93, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Bay St. Louis, MS.
Mr. Duteil was a life resident of New Orleans and moved to Bay St. Louis, MS in 1994. He was a veteran of WWII, having served overseas with the Army Signal Corps in France, Germany and Austria, earning a battle star for the Ardennes campaign. He was a member of Post 139 American Legion and Post 3252 of the VFW. He was honored to be on flight four of the Honors Flight to Washington, DC. He retired as a transportation Manager from the New Orleans Public Schools and American Transit Corp. where he was Resident Manager of Gretna, LA, a member of R.S.V.P. and active in the AARP Tax-Aide programs.
He is the husband of Shirley Hoffman Duteil, father of Gail Ann DeVasConCellos (Harry) of Bay St. Louis, MS and the late Dana Lyn Purdy (James) of Slidell, LA.; and also survived by 6 grandchildren, Jeffery J. DeVasConCellos (Mary) of Florence, SC, Brian E. DeVasConCellos (Elizabeth) of Spring Lake, MI, Paul D. DeVasConCellos (Danielle) of Richland, WA, Rachel Purdy Reis (Steve) of Tampa, FL, Adam P. Purdy (Tracy) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Jason J. Purdy (Lauren) of Jacksonville, FL; and 9 great-grandchildren. His cousin, Arnold J. Schlottmann of Picayune, MS, was a close friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. Duteil Sr. & Lillian Caroline Piske Duteil; and his daughter, Dana Lyn Purdy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 12th at St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church, Bay St. Louis, where friends may visit one hour prior.
