Jose Victor Lopez, age 79 and a resident of Gulfport, died on Monday, January 16, 2012, in Gulfport.
He was born on August 17, 1932, in Pearsall, TX. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a former resident of Hammond, Indiana, where he worked for Elmwood Cemetery from 1990 until 2001. Mr. Lopez loved to fish, play baseball, loved the Dallas Cowboys, listen to country music, and work on cars.
Mr. Lopez was preceded in death by his mother, Luz Garza Lopez; his father, Jose O. Lopez; two sons, David Lopez and Victor Lopez; two sisters, Alice Saldona and Elma Valdez and his father-in-law, Melvin E. Whitehead.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Della Lopez of Gulfport; his daughters, Lorra Lopez of Gulfport, Kristy (Emmet) Williams of Gulfport, Annette Lopez of Hammond, Patricia (Bill) Jones of Sun City, AZ, and Dora Lopez of Hammond; his sons, Victor (Rosie) Lopez of Russellville, AL, Sean Williams of Gulfport, Joe (Vicky) Lopez of Hammond, Carlos Lopez of Hammond, Ricardo Lopez of Hammond, and William K. Horne of Hammond; his sisters, Olgo (Armando) Sanchez of Hammond and Aida (Federico) Martinez of Lansing, IL; his mother-in-law, Louise Whitehead; 24 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; 14 nephews, 10 nieces, cousins, great nephews, great nieces, other family members, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012, at 9:00am at the National Cemetery in Biloxi.
The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, assisted the family with arrangements.
