Johnnie Hurshel Sullivan, Sr., of Gulfport, went home to be with our loving Father on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in Gulfport.
Mr. Sullivan was born in New Hebron, MS and moved to Gulfoprt in 1944 where he worked for A&P Food Store for 48 years. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, friend, brother and son each day of his life for 80 years. He enjoyed his work, refereeing ballgames, hunting with friends and spending time at Jerry's Auto Shop where he spent many memorable days working and helping. Most of all he loved providing for his family. Johnnie viewed each day as another opportunity to uplift and provide for his wife and children.
Mr. Sullivan was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport.
Those he leaves to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 59 years, Vernell Sullivan, his son, Hurshel Sullivan of College Station, TX, son, Vernon Keith Sullivan of Gulfport, daughter, Janet Zirkle of Gulfport, brothers, Bill Sullivan of New Hebron, Jerry Sullivan of Bookhaven, sisters Ollie Mae Westmoreland of New Hebron, Peggy Sullivan of Brookhaven and Lois Stegenga of Pascagoula. Surviving in addition are 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He also loved his dog., Beau.
The family wishes to thank members of Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Jerry Allen and Mr. SullivanaÌ‚â‚â„¢s surviving family members for their faithful support throughout this journey.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11213 Hwy 49 North, Gulfport. at 1:00 PM with visitation one hour prior to service.
Burial will follow at Floral Hills Mausoleum.
