John Mack Woods(J.M.), 84, a native of Mt. Olive, MS, and a resident of Gulfport, MS died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at his residence. He was born on November 15, 1924, in Smith County. When he moved to Gulfport, he established a 56 acre ranch, where he enjoyed raising all types of animals, and where he planted a garden every year. He lived a simple life and was of the Baptist faith. He was employed with the Gulfport VeteranaÌââ¢s Administration (VA) for 35 years, served in the Navy for two years, and was a World War II Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wylie and Bertie Woods; brothers, Hence, Wiley """"Billy"""", Jerry """"Perk"""", Edd """"Dent"""" and Paul Woods; sisters, Lottie Ray Switzer and Ludie Woods.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joan Grisham, originally from Iuka, MS; sister, Ophelia """"Boots"""" Harper, 2 daughters, Janet Harvell and her husband Doyle, Judy Parish, and son Johnny Woods; 6 grandchildren, Billy Parish, Denea Chambers, Rusty Harvell, John Parish, Niki Lockard, and Darren Harvell, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, where friends may visit from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2009, in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
