John Joseph Varhol, age 71, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at his residence in Gulfport. He was formerly of New Britain, CT.
He graduated college from the University of Hartford, and he served in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1973. Mr. Varhol was retired from the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and spoiling his grandkids. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woomarket.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Steven Varhol and Bernice Jakacki Varhol; and his sister, Alfreda Jane Varhol.
He was survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Debra Kay Varhol of Gulfport; his children, John M. Varhol (Denise) of Gulfport, Dawn R. Purser (Michael) of Gulfport, and Courtney L. Varhol (Troy Boudean) of Gulfport; his brother, Peter Varhol (Laura) of New Britain, CT; his grandchildren, Blaise Purser, Hunter Purser, Morgan Varhol, Makinley Varhol, Beckham Boudean, Ava Boudean, and Jeni Bond.
My husband and our father, taught us what it means to be a wonderful Father, Husband, Papa, and Brother, but most of all a true friend. He was firm in his principles and supportive as we began to seek our own ways. He encouraged and comforted, but never steered. We tested his patience -I Know We Did-but he always responded with the greatest unconditional love. To us, he was the brightest of a thousand points of light. He will be missed beyond measure. We would like to extend a special thank you to Jessica at Kare-In-Home Hospice and our loving family friend, Shelby Henley for the care they provided to John.
