John Untershine

Mr. John Lawrence Untershine, Jr, of Vancleave, and a long time resident of Biloxi, died in Ocean Springs on March 30, 2008.
He was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on May 6, 1932. John served his country as an Airman First Class with the U. S. Air Force, having attended Keesler Electronic Schools in 1952, and was stationed at Mather AFB, CA from 1953-1956. He graduated from Sacramento State College in 1962 with a degree in Psychology and made Biloxi home for he and his family in 1972, when he relocated to Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula to complete the design and construction of the Navy's DD963 and LHA Class ships. John retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after serving 27 years and receiving three Navy Citations/Excellence awards.
John was a devoted husband, father, and friend to many. He served as Cub Scout Master from 1965 to 1972, Kiwanis softball coach from 1968 to 1971 in Long Beach, CA, and as an AARP Tax-Aide Counselor from 1997 to 2005 in Biloxi, MS. John's positive nature and humor will be missed by all who knew him.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann; four sons: David and wife Leslie, James, Ronald and wife Wendy, and Mark and wife Sandra; nine grandchildren: Jennifer, Julia, Rachel, Christine, Sara, Adam, Emma, Christina, and alyssa; four great-grandchildren: Christian, Kayla, Jadyn, and Josephine; and one sister: Marilyn Thomas of San Diego, CA.
Friends may visit on Sunday, April 6, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd, Biloxi. The Celebration of Life service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 7, 2008 in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, well wishers donate to one's favorite charity.
