John Trahan

d. November 5, 2019

John Michael Trahan, age 68 of Diamondhead, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
Born in New Orleans to a large Italian family, John led a life of service and love.  His three major loves were God, his family and friends, and his country.  John used every opportunity to share his love of God with everyone.  Striving to grow in his faith he led and enjoyed numerous bible studies.  Glancing at his bible it was difficult to find his favorite verse because so many passages were marked, highlighted and notes added.  His love of his family began in 1970 when he married Kathy.   God blessed them with three children, and later with 12 amazing grandchildren.  Demonstrating his love was easy - he invested his time in their lives. He and Kathy attended every sporting and academic activity as well as numerous family gatherings. He babysat, entertained, shared his knowledge and instilled in them a shared love of God and life.
His love of country began when he joined the USMC after graduating from East Jefferson High School. His patriotism did not end when his formal service was over. He spoke knowledgeably about his beliefs and defended his country.
John's work life was not limited to his 40 years at Otis servicing elevators. He was an avid fisherman and owned a seafood restaurant. John could build or fix anything and offered his help to neighbors and friends and never could refuse when his children and grandchildren asked. He loved people and loved to help. His life has been a life of service and gratitude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Frank Trahan and Clare Rita Vega Trahan; brother, Joseph Frank Trahan, Jr.; and his uncle, Ronald Trahan.
He is survived by his wife of 49½ years, Kathy Trahan; children, Lisa Ann Smith (Mike), John Michael Trahan, II (Lisa Kay), Christopher Joseph Trahan (Amanda); grandchildren, James Austin Matthews (Marilyn), Rio Nicole Sale, Shawn Michael Trahan, Madison Collette Trahan, Payten Brooke Trahan, Leigha Noelle Trahan, Sienna Layne Smith, Nathan Alexander Trahan,  Camryn Schae Smith, Kristi Smith, Christian Michael Smith (Trysta), Candace Rene Smith; siblings, Linda Plaisance (Daryl), Tom Trahan, Janet Guillory (Dennis), Joanne Zeringue (Patrick), and Robert Charles Trahan; sister-in-law, Darlene Trahan; brothers-in-law, Micheal Rounis (Christine) and John Rounis; and a large extended family.
