John T. Taranto

John Thomas Taranto passed away peacefully on September 4, 2024, in Saucier, MS, with his devoted wife, Brenda, and family by his side.  Born on November 2, 1947, in Biloxi, MS, Tommy lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and a deep love for his family, friends, and Christ.

A proud graduate of D’Iberville High School Class of 1965, Tommy earned his associates degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where he shone as a football player on a scholarship from 1965 to 1967. These early experiences shaped his values and work ethic, which he carried throughout his life. His contributions to both work and family exemplified his character of determination and
integrity.

Internationally known as "Captain Johnny", he was respected around the world for his mentorship and expertise. He ended his employment with McDermott International as the General Superintendent of South East Asia. He continued his career as an international consultant in the offshore oil and gas construction and pipeline industry. He was also an investor, entrepreneur, and local developer.

Tommy had many hobbies and passions. He was an outdoor adventurer, an avid hunter, antique car enthusiast, boxing and MMA fan, a loyal friend, and a dedicated family man.

Tommy attended Cedar Lake church in Biloxi, Ms. He was a lifelong servant of the Lord. His faithfulness to Jesus inspired a multigenerational family of Christ followers.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Brenda Taranto; his son, John (Olivia) Taranto Jr.; his daughter, Monica Tooki; and his 7 adoring grandchildren, Catherine Taranto, Daniel Taranto, Jacob Taranto, Micah Taranto, Hannah Taranto, Kai Tooki, and Asia Tooki; his 9 great-grandchildren Brook, Sean, Meredith, Izabella, Michael, Mathew, David, Myla and Finnegan. He was also the beloved brother of Sheila (Ralph) Borries and Patrick Taranto, several nieces and nephews, whose love and support remained with him throughout his life.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Trula Taranto, along with his brothers, Arnie and David Taranto. Their memory will forever echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

As we gather to celebrate the life of this remarkable man, we will remember him not just for his accomplishments but for the love and faithfulness he shared with so many. Tommy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, leaving a profound impact on everyone he encountered. His memory will forever shine brightly in the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and commitment to Christ. 

A visitation in honor of Tommy will take place on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home - West Jackson County in Biloxi, MS, from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 10:00 AM.

Immediately following the services, the family would like to extend an invitation for you to join them at the D'Iberville Community Center, 10452 Lamey Bridge Road, D'Iberville, MS 39540.

In these moments, we will come together to share stories, reflect on his life, and celebrate the wonderful soul that was John Thomas Taranto.  In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in his name to MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030.
