John Walter Sullivan, known to many as Shirley, passed away suddenly, Saturday, May 8,
2010, in Gulfport, MS at the age of 62. John was born and raised in Greenville, MS,
but his heart was in Memphis, TN, where he was a longtime resident. His second love
was the beach and throughout his life he had had the chance to enjoy many of them.
John was preceded in death by his Father, Mother and three brothers. He is survived by
a brother, Larry A. Sullivan of NC; two sisters, Joyce R. Sullivan and Judy A.
Sullivan, both of FL; several nephews and nieces, who cherished him dearly, and their
children. He, also, leaves behind his best friend and confidante, Ricky Lott and a
whole community of beloved friends in Memphis, TN.
John was cremated on May 13, 2010, under the direction of the Rieman Funeral Home in
Gulfport, MS. A memorial and the scattering of his ashes will be at a later date
somewhere along the beaches of Fort Walton Beach, FL, where he spent a lot of his time
sunning, fishing and just enjoying life.
Although, John will be missed, his memory will always live on. He loved to laugh and
spread good cheer and through his life's journey he managed to touch a lot of people.
So as you all gather to remember him, keep this one thought in mind, in the true form
of the Irish. Don't mourn his passing, celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the American Heart
Association or a charity of your choice.
