Mr. John Joseph Stansberry, Jr., age 79, resident of Pass Christian, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010.
Mr. Stansberry was born in Westwego, LA to John Joseph Stansberry, Sr. and Lucia Pertuit. He married Rita Mae Irwin in 1950 and moved to Gretna where they raised their family. He worked at Todd Shipyard for over 30 years. He moved to Pass Christian in 1986 and co-owned Coastal Carts in downtown Gulfport. His hobbies included bowling, golf, and cooking. He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Stansberry was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Joseph Stansberry, III; daughter-in-law, Gail Simoneaux Stansberry; and grandson, James Stansberry.
He is survived by his former wife, Rita Stansberry Forestiere of Pass Christian; children, Irwin Stansberry of Gretna and his wife Terry, Mikki Cuevas of Pass Christian and her husband Timmy; and 6 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, from 9 a.m. until 12 Noon.
Visitation will also be held Friday at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA, from 6-9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Mothe Funeral Home, with entombment to follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Dixie White House Nursing Home for their care and compassion.
