Long Beach

John W. Scranage, age 82 of Long Beach, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

John faithfully served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a master jeweler & craftsman and a pillar of the Gulf Coast Community.  Affectionately referred to as "The Stone Man", he was well known by many who frequented his business, The Stone Man & The Gem Lady, located in downtown Long Beach.  He had a passion for learning and sharing his knowledge with people of all ages through teaching about the lapidary field and the natural world.  He found great pleasure in feeding the sea gulls, walking the beach and spending time boating on the Gulf.  He enjoyed cooking elaborate meals, feeding everyone and spending time with friends.

John is survived by his wife, Sheila Taylor; his daughter Joycelyn Debnath (Jayanta); his grandchildren, Jogesh Debnath, Nilamani Guhasarkar, Nimai Guhasarkar, Melanie Germain, Walter Jerkiewicz, James Jerkiewicz; and his dear friends, Craig and Dixie Huch.

He will be greatly missed and is now at peace and can rest.
