CWO4 John F. "Jack" O'Neill, USMC- Retired, age 78 of Diamondhead, passed away in the arms of his loving wife on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
Jack was born in Philadelphia, PA and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve on 17 July 1956. His assignments included State Department Duty (1958-1961) in Rome, Italy. He was very proud for his work with Toys for Tots, and continued to serve his country honorably and with pride for 38 years, retiring as CWO4.
In addition to serving his country, Jack traveled the world as a successful businessman in industrial sales. A gifted and avid golfer for 65 years, he won countless tournaments and Club Championships including First Place in the Japanese National Open. Jack fulfilled a dream in November of 2011 by becoming a certified PGA professional. At age 72 years young, he became the oldest PGA professional to earn his PGA card. A devoted golf instructor for many years, he shared his love for golf with men, women, and children. He volunteered countless hours helping others learn the game of golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Marie Dennery O'Neill; sister, Pat O'Neill Covert; and son, John F. "Jackie" O'Neill.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Leslie Price O'Neill; brother, Father Brian O'Neill; three children; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who loved and adored him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Pass Christian, with a visitation for family and friends from 11:00 AM until the mass. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. A reception will follow Mass at the church.
Private burial will be at a later date at Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Most Trinity Catholic Church Building Fund.
