John Miller, age 83 and a resident of Diamondhead, MS, died on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, in Diamondhead, at his residence. He suffered a long illness with Parkinson's disease.
Mr. Miller was born in Brookhaven, MS and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Atlantic with the Merchant Marines and the US Army.
He attended Millsaps College in Jackson, obtaining a degree in Chemistry. After Millsaps, he received a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Houston. Mr. Miller was committed to the health care profession, establishing two drug stores, Cooper Road Drugs and Farish Street Drugs in Jackson. He also worked for the Veteran Adminstration for several years in Jackson.
He retired to Diamondhead, where his greatest love was fishing the MS Gulf Coast with family & friends, and traveling.
Mr. Miller is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Sarah Miller; his three children, David (Pam) Miller of Biloxi, MS, Capt. Terry (Diane) Miller, USN of McLean, VA, and Lisa (Buddy) Perkins of Hancock County; his sisters, Eula Mae Stringer of Tulsa, OK and Helen Galiano of Jackson; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mr. Miller's wishes were to be cremated and a private inurnment to be held at the National Cemetery in Biloxi, at a later date.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136.
