John Dix Meyer

John Dix Meyer, Jr., CUCM, USN, retired, 77 years old, passed away Wednesday evening, September 26, 2012 in Mobile, AL.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Dix Meyer, Sr., his mother, Rebeckah Bessie King Meyer, his son, Eric Martin Meyer, and his brother, Carl Gene Meyer.
Dix is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maria Luisa (Marisa) Achaval Meyer, his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Meyer, his son, Shawn Dix Meyer, and his wife Stacey, and his grandchildren, Lindsey and Luke Meyer. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathleen Baker and Penelope Meyer.
Dix Meyer served honorably in the United States Navy Seabees as a builder for 29 ½ years, retiring in June 1987 as a Master Chief Petty Officer. He earned numerous awards in service and for deployments worldwide, including combat in Vietnam.
He was the proud Captain of the motor vessel ""The Second Edition"" and an avid fisherman in his retirement years. He was proud of his honorary life membership in the Buccaneer Yacht Club.
A Prayer Service will be held at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, MS. Visitation will be held from 11:45 a.m. until the service. A Graveside service and interment with military honors will follow the service at Biloxi National Cemetery. Family, friends and military comrades are welcome to attend.
