John William (Chip) Meehan, III, age 56 and a resident of Biloxi, died on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in Biloxi after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Meehan attended Tulane University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was a graduate of Loyola University of New Orleans. For the past decade he served the Coast through his work with the insurance industry where he delighted in all of the people he met, many of whom touched his life professionally and personally. He was thankful for all of their thoughts and prayers during his long illness.
Chip was preceded in death by his father, John W. Meehan, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette; his mother, Barbara Harper Meehan of Cleveland, MS; his brother, Michael Harper Meehan of New Orleans; two daughters, Jennifer Leighton (Mark), of Auburn, Maine, Kristen Meehan of Biloxi; and three sons, John W. Meehan IV (Jack) of Biloxi, Charles Meehan of Jackson, and Collin Meehan of Biloxi. He is also survived by his much loved grandchildren, aunts, cousins, his many in-laws, nieces and nephews, and a very special extended family of Ole Miss """"children"""".
A native of New Orleans, Mr. Meehan was a longtime resident of Pass Christian, spending his final days between his residences in Jackson and Biloxi. He was an avid believer in many social causes, especially the Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi, and asked prior to his death that he be remembered with memoriams to that organization to aid in their education of Mississippians on the dangers of tobacco use.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi.
