Mr. John Charles Martinek, 95, of Long Beach, died Saturday, November 26, 2011, in Lyman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna; a brother and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Martinek of Long Beach; sons, Charles (Linda) Martinek of Long Beach and Kenneth (Donna) Martinek of Greentown, PA and daughter, Karen (Doug) Peardon of Gainesville, MO.
Mr. Martinek served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a sailor aboard the battleship USS Texas and saw action in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of operation. He was later employed by Union Carbide in Bound Brook, NJ until his retirement. He and his wife moved to Long Beach in 1998 and were members of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach.
A Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at 3:30pm at St. Thomas Catholic Church, where family and friends may visit thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Long Beach City Cemetery.
The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provided by Greg Sullivan and his staff at Connected Heart during Mr. Martinek's last few years.
The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, assisted the family with arrangements.
