John Edward Lipski

May 6, 1931 — March 21, 2014

John Edward Lipski EOC, U.S. Navy (Retired), passed away on March 21, 2014, at the VA in Biloxi, Mississippi.
He was born on May 6, 1931 to Leo Frank Lipski and Edna Lipski. A loving husband and father, John devoted his life to family and those friends and families dear to his heart - he never turned down anyone who needed him. He made great, life-long friends in his wonderful journey. Many know him from the US Navy, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, the baseball fields, or boy scouts. There's much more to John. Extremely proud of his 32 years in the Navy, he sailed the seas and pioneered the frontier of Antarctica twice under Operation Deep Freeze. His greatest adventure was breaking through 200 miles of ice on the USS Glacier, and then unloading the cargo ships by pulling 50-ton sleds near the broken ice. For him this was more dangerous than when he was being shelled in Vietnam. He spoke fondly of his times in Morocco, New Zealand, Chile, and cliff diving in Pennsylvania. He will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he has touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Norman; and his grandson, John Joseph (JJ).
He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor; sons, Mike (Jill), Jim (Diana), Tom (Jacquie) and Alan (Danielle); grandchildren, Olivia, Nicole, Amelia, Matthew; and brother, Robert (Grace).
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Long Beach, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Committal Rites will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS, with burial honors rendered by the U.S. Navy.
In lieu of flowers, he wishes charitable contributions be made in his honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN or the Children's Inn, National Institute of Health, Washington D.C.
