John Charles Kostelnik, 69, passed away on February 13, 2010, and is now resting with Jesus in Heaven for all eternity.
Charles was born October 28, 1940 in Poplarville to Mr. R.J. and Annie Cowart Kostelnik. Charles graduated from McNeil High School with honors as salutatorian in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1963 to June 1966, training in electronics at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL, and later stationed in Schwaebisch Gmeund, Germany. Upon his return home, he graduated from the MS Law Enforcement Training Academy in Oct. 1966, and served as a MS Sate Trooper until Jan. 1978. He retired from the Biloxi Veterans Administration, in July 2006, and Charles said more than once that his two dearest friends were two of his co-workers, Mr. Sal """"Papa"""" Suarez and Mr. Bill Kitchell.
He is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Donna Seal Kostelnik, his beloved and loyal daughter, Donna """"Leslie"""" Borbas and his treasured granddaughter, Alexa Madison Borbas. Also, his spunky, high spirited mom-in-law, Agnes Seal, sisters-in-law, Barbara DeBlasi and Mary Goff, brothers-in-law, Charlie (Debra) Seal, Joe (Stacy) Seal, as well as special cousins, nephews and nieces.
Charles will always be remembered as a gentle and humble man - a true southern gentleman. His love and dedication for his family, friends and many treasured pets will be in our hearts forever. He showed kindness to everyone he met. His faithful puppy, Shadow, of eight years, stayed by his side guarding and loving him in heath and sickness endlessly. We still hear your beautiful whistling """"Me and My Shadow"""" and other lovely melodies.
Charles was a lifetime member of the Humane Society of the United States, South MS and WRAMPS Society. Always tithing to so many charities first kept him sincere and honest his obligations.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in Charles' memory to """"Rebuild St. Thomas Fund"""", P.O. Box 1529, Long Beach, MS 39560, or MHG Hospice, 4500 Memorial Drive, Gulfport, MS 39501, or the Humane Society of South MS, 2615 25th Ave., Gulfport, MS 39501.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Father Louis Lohan and Sister Teresa Baugh of St. Thomas Church, Long Beach, and all the thoughtful prayers by so many kind individuals. Especially RN's Dawn McColister, Natalie Dedeaux, Brenda Dubuisson, and Rosetta Miller, all with MHG Hospice. A special thank you to Charles' sister-in-law, Barbara DeBlasi for her tireless and faithful devotion and time during his brief but courageous battle with cancer as well as his devoted friend Sal """"Papa"""" Suarez. """"Uncle Sal, Shadow thanks you too!
