John T. Kornegay

March 23, 1930 — August 27, 2009

John Tucker Kornegay of Biloxi, MS, passed away on August 27, 2009. Born on March 23, 1930 to the late Luman and Lena Kornegay of Eoline, AL, he resided on the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 1963.
He attended school in Bibb County, Alabama. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy. When he was discharged from the Navy, he attended the University of Alabama and received his Law Degree. After graduation, he accepted a position with State Farm Insurance. He moved to Gulfport as Superintendent of Auto Claims until he retired January 1, 1993 after 35 years. He then accepted employment with Stewart Sneed Hewes for several years before retiring to play golf and fish. He was a former member of the Sunkist Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Patricia; his daughters, Roxanne (Steve) Hill, of Gulfport, Lisa (Louis) Polasek of Houston, TX, Linda (Chuck) Webster; and his son, John Jr. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tyler Hill, Freddie Leuenberger, Lindsay Allen, Rachel Zingg, Angela Tannahill, and Jason Kornegay; five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Pauline Snipes and Shirley Tucker; brothers, Luman Kornegay, Jr. and Floyd Kornegay, and several nieces and nephews.
John was loved by his family and will be missed, especially by his two dogs, Mr. Spock and Wags.
Friends are invited to visit from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. Burial with military honors will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Ave, Gulfport, MS 39501 or the Mississippi City Methodist Church, 219 Courthouse Rd, Gulfport, MS 39507.
