John Emile Elkins of Bay St. Louis, MS died peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, in the loving presence of his daughter, Lindsay and his granddaughter, Jamie.
John graduated from New York University with a degree in Boys Club Administration and for many years had a very satisfying career as a Boys Club professional helping ""at risk"" youth in New York City and Detroit. Among cherished memories in his retirement were contacts with many of the men he had coached as teens who sought him out to tell him how much he had meant in their lives.
John moved to Bay St. Louis in 2003 to live near his children, John Craig, Lindsay, and Robert Elkins and his grandchildren Jamie and Landon Elkins. They all survive him.
His children extend special thanks to his uncle, Bob Elkins and Joe Kozo, retired Executive Director of the Boys Clubs of Metropolitan Detroit and John's colleague and mentor, for his support and encouragement during their father's battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Gulfport, is in charge of arrangement. Tributes may be shared at riemannfamilyfuneralhome.com
