John Francis Coyne, age 88, of Gulfport, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Gulfport.
Jack was educated in parochial and public schools of Syracuse, New York, with degrees from Syracuse and Cornell Universities. He retired after 32 years of service with the U.S. Forest Service in various capacities of National Forest management, forest surveys, and in research pertaining to the development of forest insect control through the use of chemicals and breeding trees resistant to attack.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Julia Cropper Coyne; his mother and father, Brigid and Thomas Coyne; his sister, Helen Keough and husband William; and his niece, Ann Marie Keough.
He survived by his nephew, Kevin Keough and wife Nancy, and their children Taylor, Kristen, and Lauren Keough. He is also survived by his wife JuliaaÌââ¢s nieces and nephews; Julia Arceneaux, Betty Cropper, Marilyn Clement, and Ernest Cropper and wife Patti; and grand nieces and nephews, Julie Douglas and husband Billy, Susan Bass and husband Steve, John Arceneaux and wife Shannon, Michael Arceneaux, Michael Cropper, Rachel Cropper, Lauren Cropper, Mark Clement, Ricky Clement, Steven Clement, and Chris Clement; and 15 great nieces and nephews.
JackaÌââ¢s wonderful wit, love of nature, music (and especially the St. James Choir), sports, friends, and his great appreciation for the gift of life endeared him to all he knew. He adopted the Mississippi Gulf Coast as his home when he moved her with the Forest Service in the 1950aÌââ¢s, and has been beloved by so many, along with his New York family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church, with visitation 1hr. prior to service at the church. Burial will follow in Southern Memorial Park Cemetery. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Gulfport, is in charge of arrangements.
