John Richard “Johnny” Cox, II, age 67, of Gulfport, passed away on November 24, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Richard “Dicky” Cox; his grandparents, George Julian Clark, Nellie Knox Haga, John Fish Cox, and Sadie Witts Cox.

Johnny is survived by his loving mother, George Ann Cox; a brother, James D. “Jim” Cox (Cynthia); 2 nieces, Jamie C. Myrick (Alex) and Sarah E. Cox; and a great-niece, Olivia Myrick.

He attended New Hope Cerebral Palsy School, Harrison County Exceptional School, and the Gulfport Workshop for the Handicapped.  He participated in bowling leagues, special square dance association, and he participated in the Special Olympics in bowling where he won the silver medal for state and won a gold medal for national.  He served as the secretary of the Jaycees for the Handicapped and was once the carrier of the year for the Daily Herald.  He also attended Arts Festivals for the handicapped for many years.  He was of the Baptist faith.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Pass Christian Health and Rehabilitation Center for the love and care that Johnny received over the last four months.

A graveside service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
