Mr. John Robert Bullard, born August 9, 1932, in Perkinston, MS, passed away at age 79, Monday, February 27, 2012, at his home in Long Beach, MS.
He met Norma Jean Johnson of Long Beach, at First Baptist Church Long Beach and they were married there August 24, 1968. They moved to Anchorage, AK later that year. There, they were members of First Baptist Church Anchorage, until returning to the coast, where he continued to be a member of First Baptist Church Long Beach until his death. Mr. Bullard was a Master Mason and a member of the Anchorage Lodge #17, F & A M, Anchorage, and a member of Long Beach Chapter #306 Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed watching sports and competing in many athletic activities including softball, basketball, racquetball, golf, bicycling, and tennis, winning numerous awards in events he entered. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and later in the Air Reserve, earning an Air Force Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, an Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, an Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Award, and a Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.
He was preceded in death by parents Luther Leroy Bullard and Mellie Mary Jones Bullard, both school teachers, and a brother, James H. Bullard, deceased during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Norma Jean Johnson Bullard, brother Luther Steven Bullard (Carolyn), Ocean Springs, MS, sister in love, Faye Johnson Collins, Long Beach, MS, brother-in-law Dalton Travis Johnson (Marie), Laurel, MS, nephews, Jeffrey C. Collins (Sindy), Long Beach, MS, Dalton Travis Johnson, Jr., Lumberton, MS, and Shawn Bullard (Guiliana) Arlington, VA, and nieces Kimberly Jean Johnson Smith, (David), Lumberton, MS, Sherri Bullard Slusher, League City, TX, Charla Bullard, Jackson, MS, and Shanna Bullard Boyer (Mark) Houston, TX and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to caregivers (all sisters) Karen McKnight, Sharon Hopkins, and Donna Dykes, and to Elizabeth Powell, with Tender Loving Care.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 1, 2012, from 1:00pm-3:00pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, MS., with the funeral service to be held immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Graveside service to follow at Long Beach City Cemetery.
