Dr John Edward Brady, age 67, of Gulfport, died Thursday, October 20, 2011 in Memphis, TN.
Born in Corinth, MS, September 5th 1944, Dr. Brady graduated from Gulfport High School, Class of 1962; B.S. University of Southern Mississippi, 1967; M.S. University of Tennessee, 1983; and Doctorate of Education, Vanderbilt University, 1989.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. While stationed in Thailand he did volunteer helicopter missions into Vietnam for rescue of the injured and fallen. He served in the U.S. Army 1967 - 1989, Medical Corp, Honorable discharge, March 1989. After retiring from the military, he had a second career: 1990 - 1994, Assistant professor, University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg and Long Beach; and a third career: Business owner, Decision Scientific, Managerial Consulting and Applied Research, 1996 - present.
His was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast and active rider and was an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He was a Licensed Captain in the Merchant Marines, with over 20-year's sailing experience, including volunteer work on the Glenn L Swetman.
He was a Tennessee Volunteers football and basketball fan and Atlanta Braves baseball fan; enjoyed woodwork and other tool work. He was a dog and cat lover (did not admit to the cat part, but it was true), raised numerous German Sheppards and Golden Retrievers, among others.
His careers took him to numerous foreign countries including Vietnam, Thailand, and Germany and many US states with his family.
Family preceding him in death are his parents, Jules Edward Brady and Hettie Lee Perkins Brady; and daughter-in-law, Laura K Brady.
Family surviving him are his wife, Rita R Brady; son, John Michael Brady (daughter-in-law, Lynda); daughter, Kelly Mundell (son-in-law Tony); sister, Carolyn Brady Crabtree of Nashville, TN; sister, Julie Brady Young (Robert Young) of Prattville, AL; grandchildren, Diana Royalty, Brandon Royalty, Bryan Royalty (all three through John Michael), Ellie Mundell, Marley Mundell, Ty Mundell and Zen Mundell (all four through Kelly); and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, especially the class of 1962.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd. in Long Beach. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 26 at Biloxi National Cemetery. The funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Tributes may be offered at www.riemannfamily.com.
