Joel Wayne Estes, age 84 of Long Beach, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2010.
Mr. Estes was preceded in death by his father, Will Estes, his mother, Suzie Estes and a sister, Katherine Palmer.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Long Beach, his daughter, Rene' Wischow (Perry) of Fort Collins, CO, his son, Joel Estes (Jean) of Hurst, TX, his grandchildren, Madeline Wischow of Fort Collins, CO, Sherrill Burgdorf (Paul) of Arlington, TX, Kristine Kuntzendorf (Don) of McKinney, TX, Angela Roberts (Jason) of North Richland Hills, TX, Amy Laird (Eric) of Arlington, TX, and Marcie Campbell (Nathan) of Grand Prairie, TX; his sister-in-law, Bettie Kurtz of Powell, TN; his twelve great grandchildren, one nephew and three nieces.
Mr. Estes was born in Delta County, Texas on May 21, 1926. Upon graduation from high school he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon completion of service he earned his Bachelor's degree in Mathematics' and Physics from East Texas State College, Commerce, TX, affording him opportunities that would lead him to the peak of his career as an Aerospace Engineer. This is where he would test the Saturn second stage S-IV at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. Joel was an avid golfer.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Stone County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Alzheimer's & Dementia Unit, 1436 E. Central Ave. Wiggins, MS 39577.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, is in charge of arrangements.
