On May 16, 2024, the world lost a remarkable soul, as Joe Lynn Rivers passed away in Pascagoula, MS, at the age of 85. Joe was born on September 29, 1938, in Union, MS, to his loving parents James and Necie Rivers.
Joe dedicated 37 years of his life to Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he served as a Subcontractor Administrator. His work ethic and commitment were truly admirable, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Joe's educational journey was marked by his graduation from Union High School and later obtaining a bachelor's degree in business from Southern Mississippi in 1961.
Described as a very practical person with a no-nonsense attitude, Joe was someone who valued punctuality and efficiency. His famous saying, "the bus is leaving," encapsulated his approach to life – always focused and ready for the next adventure.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Joe found joy in simple pleasures. He had a passion for exploring new restaurants, whether local or out of state. He enjoyed tending to his yard and grilling delicious meals for his family and friends. An avid supporter of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the New Orleans Saints, Joe's enthusiasm for sports was infectious.
One of Joe's proudest accomplishments was his longstanding membership in the Elks Club in Pascagoula for over 50 years. His dedication to serving his community and fostering connections with others shone brightly through this association.
Joe will be deeply missed by his surviving family members: his beloved wife of 40 years Carolyn Rivers; daughter Vicki (Bob) Cheesman; son Dyrone Dearman; grandson Baxter Cheesman; grandson Simon Cheesman; granddaughter Hollie (Jeremy) Eubanks; grandson Josh (Gina) Cook; grandson Andrew Lane; great-granddaughter Allie Eubanks; great-granddaughter Dixie Cook; and great-granddaughter Kenzie Cook.
