Joe Perez, Jr., a cherished member of his community, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at his residence in Biloxi, Mississippi, at the age of 88. Born on October 2, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas, Joe led a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for his family.
Joe retired after an impressive 23-year career as a Safety Representative with Ingalls Shipyard, where he contributed his knowledge and experience from 1975 until 1998. Prior to his tenure in shipbuilding, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a Technical Sergeant after having enlisted in 1955. His military service was a source of great pride and honor, shaping his character and instilling a sense of duty that would guide him throughout his life.
In addition to his professional achievements, Joe was deeply committed to his community and personal growth. He obtained his GED in high school, demonstrating his belief in lifelong learning. His proudest accomplishments included being an active member of the Shriners, Scottish Rites, and Masonic Fellowship Lodge #630. His dedication to the Masonic community was recognized when he was named the Scottish Rites Mason of the Year in 2021. Joe also devoted 13 years to teaching with the Harrison County Jail Ministries, sharing his time and wisdom with those in need.
Joe was a man of many interests and hobbies. He found joy in fishing and golfing, and he had a particular fondness for reading and watching old western movies. Above all, he took immense pride in attending his grandchildren's sports events, where he could cheer them on with unwavering support.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Doris Smith Perez; his daughters, Pamela Perez, Robin Iapicco, and Benita Campanella (Steve); his siblings, Esther Perez-Jeske and Robert Perez; his grandchildren, William Joseph Martin (Krista), Julia Paige Messina (Philip), Jennifer Martin McConchie, Garrett Steven Iapicco (Amanda), Leslie Ann Gallardo (Mark), and Lucy Marie Martin; his great-grandchildren, Peter Joseph Martin, Enola Perez Martin, Matilda Faye Messina, Ella Olivia Gallardo, Axel Eugene Iapicco, Zoey Marie Iapicco, Kora Faye Gallardo, and Arthur Michael Martin; and his sisters-in-law, Charlene Jones and Rachel Entriken.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Perez, Sr. and Julia Martinez Perez; his brothers Florencio Perez and Tony Perez; and his in-laws, Biser and Wilma Smith.
Visitation for Joe will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Riemann Family Funeral Home in Biloxi, located at 274 Beauvoir Rd, Biloxi, MS 39531. A memorial service will follow, starting at 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM. His final farewell will be marked by a graveside service at Biloxi National Cemetery, beginning at 1:30 PM, where he will be laid to rest with honors.
Joe Perez, Jr. will be remembered for his dedication to family, service to his country, and commitment to his community. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and the many lives he touched during his remarkable journey.
